The Context

What is the context of this project?

The context of this project is the theme of weather; I have expanded this into a universe of elves with different races of weather and their duties to control the weather. From this I have made a universe surrounding these characters and creatures and their effect on weather.

What creative question are you answering?

If people had control over weather what would be the outcome and how many unique designs can be an outcome of people based off weather and animals which relate?

Discuss your specialist pathway and how this influences how you will approach the problem.
I am looking at illustration in this piece and it is influencing me to research character design and make my own, creating a universe and characters based off a prompt of weather and building from that.

The Requirements – List your answers and develop into a well written paragraph.

 When is the deadline?
13th of May for creative outcomes 27th of May for written work

What is the profile of the audience who will be viewing the work?
Audience will be college but more focused towards teens who enjoy fantasy and themes of LBGT, to see representation within art. Within my art I will take the guidelines of the college into mind and understand the college celebrate diversity.

How will the work be displayed and where?

My final piece will be displayed by being printed out and framed alongside concepts of it and a booklet of more concepts and designs of characters and the universe I am creating. It will be displayed within the college

The Research Plan – List your answers, then describe your personal intentions developing into a well written paragraph.

How will you use primary research to support, inform and develop your ideas? (Be specific – where have you been? What have you researched?)

In order to produce a successful final piece, I have been doing primary research such as photographing weather and the effects it has on the scenery around it. Such as watching the rain and how it will make everything damp and cold, also how people will rush away from it. How the wind picks up and howls and has destructive tendencies of pushing things over, dragging dirt and rubbish around with it, making everything sway along with it; also, how people are annoyed by it. Also looking at things such as leaves and dandelions and doing small sketches to work into outfits for the characters. From this information I worked it into their outfits and their appearances or personalities.

How will you use the work of others to support, inform and develop your ideas? (Be specific – who/what have you researched?)

i intend to research how other artists display weather and create an atmosphere. For example, I will research a series named avatar the last air bender as it has similar ideas with controlling elements to what I wish to do with the characters I have created and how they do this and display it within the series. I will also continue to

State other secondary research methods you will use to add depth to your understanding of theme.

I also investigated gods' effects on weather such as Persephone. Looking at how she is in control of the seasons and the stories behind it. How she brings different weather when she changes the seasons. Creating characters which relate to weather. The effect weather has on people and their emotions, animals which mix with those weathers to help with character design. Elf clothing and clothing relating to animals and weather.

Describe how you have considered ethics and sustainability in your research and idea generation.

I am also adding the theme of LGBT with representation and diversity. This is more personal and enjoyable for me as someone part of the community and embedding the show case of people being able to see themselves in the art with it being diverse in sexuality and not a straight white man as the main character in my designs which has been shown predominately in media time and time again.

The Initial ideas- List your answers, then develop into a well written paragraph.

What is the purpose/aim of your artwork?
To link to emotions caused by weather and feelings towards the season (ie, some people hate the rain and love the sun or others find comfort in the rain, people love the snow, prefer autumn, hate summer, like spring.)

Describe how you have generated initial ideas.
Took my interests and mixed it with the idea of having a fantasy universe. Researched illustrators I enjoy the work of plus a series which holds a similar fantasy universe but with my own ideas, characters and more focused on weather. I will do further research into behaviour patterns in weather and embed it into my art. From this I began to take the idea of people harnessing weather. I also picked animals who may enjoy that weather or go out in it and based characters off them but also took other animals who enjoy the same weather and scenery and mixed them to give a more fantasy feel.

What materials do you intend to use and explore?
Pencil, watercolour, painting, digital art, and collage

What techniques and processes will you be using and exploring?

Use of contrast, shading and black and white illustrations to create and atmosphere within my work. Sketch and overlay with watercolour to created rain scene, digital art of exploring details and colours to a better understanding, sketches of more ideas and designs.

Evaluation and Planning – Develop your answers into a well written paragraph

How will record your reflective practice?
Use my wix blog to record my progress and look back on previous work and refer to previous work but experiment with different characters based off different weathers.

What are you going to do each week? Create a planning document to ensure you achieve your aims. Set weekly targets.

Check my brief and criteria, refer to it and ensure I have done what i needed

How will you evaluate your work?

Look back on what I did and refer to my creative practice and check my past research and work then develop from that and do further investigation and sketches.
